Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a night shift ICU position in an acute care setting requiring ICU experience and an active ID or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in a combined Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and Surgical ICU (SICU) within an acute care hospital
- Unit has a total of 32 beds, split between MICU (16 beds) and SICU (16 beds), including neuro ICU patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 or 1:2
- Common patient diagnoses include CABG, stroke, hemorrhage, septic shock, respiratory failure, DKA, and post-surgical cases
- Care involves titration of drips such as dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, diltiazem, insulin, esmolol, and others
- Uses Epic EMR; experience with Epic preferred
- Requires night shifts, 12 hours (7:00 pm - 7:00 am), with every other weekend required
- Floating to other ICUs within the health system and serving as a 1:1 sitter outside ICU as needed
- No designated scrub color or dress code requirements
- No on-call or standby required
- RNs are responsible for interpretation of telemetry/monitor strips on Spacelabs monitors
- Charge and resource nurses provide on-unit support; nurse aides and respiratory therapists present 24/7
- Team includes hospitalists, intensivists, and 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage
- Assignment-specific orientation is provided over 1-2 shifts
- Holiday coverage is required as needed, with scheduling efforts to accommodate requests when possible
- No blocked or special requests for scheduling are permitted
- Permanent employees must be separated for one year before acceptance as a traveler
- May be required to float to other nearby hospitals within the health system
Requirements
- Active ID or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (copies of certifications must be provided)
- Minimum of 2 years of ICU nursing experience required
- Experience titrating critical care drips required
- Must provide two professional references: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Driver's license must be provided
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility; local candidates not accepted
