Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Observation Med/Surg night shift position, requiring strong Med/Surg experience, prior travel assignment, and an active compact or IN RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in the Observation/Med/Surg unit of a hospital with 23 beds
- Night shift position, 12-hour shifts from 6:30 pm to 7:00 am
- Patient population includes cardiac, neuro, post-surgical, GI/Urology, AKI, cellulitis, and detox cases
- Required to float first within skillset to Newburgh or Henderson campuses with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float; mid-shift float within same campus may occur
- Nurse-to-patient ratios at night are 1:6-7; Charge Nurse takes patient assignment on all shifts
- Weekend block available; scheduled for three weekends out of every six-week period and every other holiday
- Uses Epic EMR; recent experience required
- Care for a diverse range of patient cases including cardiac cath recovery, post-surgical care, NIHSS/neuro assessment, GI/urology cases, AKI, and more
- Perform skills such as managing femoral/TR bands, initiating/titrating Heparin and Insulin drips, indwelling drain management, straight cath/foley care, NG tube insertion, and blood administration
- Work in a supportive environment with strong teamwork and a seasoned manager overseeing low-turnover units
- May be required to precept students and new hires as part of a teaching hospital
- Navy blue scrubs required; no hoodies, sweatshirts, or logos from competing health systems/agencies
- COVID-19 vaccine is not currently required, but this is subject to change
- Three call-ins may result in termination
Requirements
- Active IN or compact RN license required
- Current certifications in AHA BLS and NIHSS must be attached for consideration
- Minimum of two years' strong Med/Surg experience and at least one prior travel assignment required
- Recent Epic charting experience required
- Must have strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- No local candidates within a 40-mile radius
