Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN with telemetry and observation unit experience for an acute care assignment requiring an AZ or compact license and recent acute care background.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 16-bed observation unit, an extension of the ER, within an acute care, Level 1 trauma hospital
- Patient population includes chest pain rule-out MI, post heart cath (no sheaths), stable pre-CABG, and post-IR/Endo procedures
- No vents; supports BiPAP and CPAP therapies as needed
- Shifts are 12 hours, days, with every 3rd weekend required and holiday coverage rotation with core staff
- Cerner is the charting system utilized
- Floating required to any tele/med-surg floor, as well as to a sister facility
- First to float when floating is necessary
- Floor-specific orientation provided: 2 days on the unit
- Common diagnoses include chest pain, post-heart catheterization, stable post-IR/Endo procedures, and pre-CABG patients
- Critical thinking skills are essential to provide care for acute observation and telemetry patients
- Charge nurse present 24/7; PCTs staffed per census for primary care support
- Hospitalist covers call; respiratory therapy and pharmacy are available 24/7
- Dysrhythmia and sterile technique exams are required as part of compliance; failing after two attempts leads to disqualification from specific regions for 6 months
- Navy scrubs required for this unit
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required; must be current at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care RN experience within the past 6 months
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 24-48 hours of offer, with up to 2 attempts
- Must successfully complete a pass/fail simulation lab on first orientation day
- Must not have worked permanently at a CommonSpirit Health facility within the past 12 months
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility, as verified by driver's license
