Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Med/Surg position in an acute care, trauma level 2 setting with Epic EMR and every-other-weekend shifts.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Med/Surg unit within an acute care hospital
- Typical patient ratio is 1:5-6, with occasional 1:7 depending on acuity
- Patient population includes CHF, cardiac, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology cases
- 12-hour day shifts with every-other-weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Epic EMR is used and experience is preferred
- Unit equipped with Phillips telemetry monitors and CNAs for support
- In-house RT and pharmacy available 24/7
- 1-2 shifts floor-specific orientation with a preceptor
- Expected to participate in a holiday rotation with permanent staff
- May be asked to float to Critical Care for Med/Surg or stepdown acuity patients
- Key responsibilities include caring for diverse Med/Surg patient populations and conducting EKGs and aerosols for non-vented patients
- Charge nurse present on every shift; night charge nurse may take patients
- House-wide IV team available until 10 pm during weekdays and until 3:30 pm on weekends
- Block scheduling may be accommodated upon request, subject to manager approval
- Perm staff handle chemotherapy administration for oncology patients
- Traveler-friendly environment
- Holiday coverage is determined within a rotation and is required as assigned
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg RN experience
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Must provide an unexpired driver’s license for consideration
- No false nails allowed while on duty
- Must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility due to local candidate rules
- Returning travelers must have a 2-year break after 1 year cumulative experience within the health system
