Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring NE or compact licensure and competency in circulating OR procedures.
Responsibilities
- Position is in a Level 1 trauma, acute care Labor & Delivery unit
- 16 labor rooms, 9 antepartum rooms, 3 OR suites for C-sections, 7-bed triage, and 36 postpartum beds
- Handles high-risk OB and routine obstetric patients with up to 400 births per month
- Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1-2 for labor, 1:2-3 for antepartum
- RNs are responsible for titrating medications such as Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and pain medications
- Unit uses Epic for EMR and Obix for electronic fetal monitoring
- Night shifts (12 hours); required to work every third weekend, may be up to every other weekend as needed
- Required to float to Postpartum; occasional float as a 'sitter' elsewhere throughout the hospital
- Major and minor holiday coverage required
- Charge nurse present on both shifts; 2 OBTs and 24/7 CRNA, resident, and attending MD support
- Will occasionally float to postpartum unit and provide care to both mothers and infants
- RNs must be able to circulate in OR for C-sections and perform normal newborn and routine baby care
- Team-oriented environment with 2-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
- Surgical scrubs are provided and required
- RTO requests must be submitted upfront with no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; additional time off is not approved
- Preference for candidates demonstrating flexibility, teamwork, and a willingness to learn
Requirements
- Active NE or compact state RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience required
- Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and Intro to Fetal Monitoring
- Competency in OR circulation for C-section procedures is required
- Proficiency in normal newborn assessments and routine infant care required
- Ability to titrate Pitocin, Magnesium, and pain medications as per protocols
- Epic experience preferred
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license will be used to verify address
- Cannot be currently or recently (within the past year) employed full time, part time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit facility, including CHI or Dignity
- Fingernail policy prohibits artificial nails for direct patient care
