Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position in Illinois requiring prior travel and level 1 trauma neuro experience.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute care hospital setting on a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit
- Care for patients with neurological diagnoses including stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and some medical overflow
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Uses EPIC EMR system for charting
- Shifts are 12 hours, scheduled 0700-1900, with every other weekend and holiday rotation required
- Floating occurs in rotation with staff, with full assignments when floating to similar units and skill-based assignments when floating elsewhere
- Titrates Heparin drips based on PTT and may manage high-flow oxygen equipment for stable COVID cases
- House wide telemetry with Phillips monitors; nurses are not required to read telemetry strips
- Care for a diverse neurological patient population with complex acute needs
- Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7 for support
- Unit-specific orientation provided with educator and precepted shifts
- No specific scrub color required; tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings allowed while on duty
- No call or standby requirements
- Holiday and weekend shifts rotate every other occurrence
- Local candidates are accepted; those living within 50 miles will be offered local rates
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a neuro RN in a dedicated neuro unit
- Prior level 1 trauma experience required
- Previous travel RN experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Experience titrating Heparin gtt required
- Must pass a drug screen with negative results for all panels
