Job Description
      American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med/Surg Acute position in Illinois requiring Level 1 trauma and neuro unit experience.
      
            Responsibilities
            - Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med/Surg Acute unit within an acute care setting
- Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, head injuries, and some medical overflow
- Day shift with 12-hour shifts (0700-1900), every other weekend and holiday rotation required
- Patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Heparin titratable drips are used, and RN must be competent in their use
- No specific scrub color required; tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are allowed
- Uses EPIC charting system
- Floating required within rotation for general unit and with proper support if floated outside home unit
- RNs are supported 24/7 by a charge nurse and house supervisor
- Nurse aids or patient care techs are available, with day and evening ratios 1:9-10, and nights 1:10-12
- No requirement to read telemetry strips as there are dedicated monitor techs using Phillips equipment
- Orientation is provided over two days, including computer and unit-specific training with preceptorship
- No on-call or standby requirement
- COVID-19 vaccination is not required
- Local candidates are considered with local pay rates if residing within 50 miles
- Holiday and every other weekend coverage is required
Requirements
      - Active IL RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required
- Prior Level 1 trauma experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not accepted
- Prior dedicated neuro unit experience required
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Must have experience with titrating heparin drips
- Negative drug screen result required for all panels
