Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift ICU position requiring 2+ years ICU and stepdown experience, with BLS and ACLS certifications.
Responsibilities
- Work in a hospital ICU with a 12-bed unit
- Patient population includes cardiac arrest, COVID-positive, PUI, CVA post t-PA, nonthreatening bleeds, sepsis, DKA, and intubated patients post RRTs and MSETs
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2
- Night shift, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, 12-hour shifts
- Weekend requirement is every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday
- Self-scheduling and block scheduling available, 6 weeks at a time
- Floating may be required to PCU, 6B, and medical boarders
- Required to work 1 major and 1 minor holiday
- No on-call requirement
- Unit utilizes Vents, BiPap, Cpap, High Flow oxygen equipment, Artic Sun, CRRT, and EKOS systems
- RNs are required to read and interpret EKG strips
- No tele/monitor techs for critical care unit patients
- Clinical Technicians provide support with vital signs, EKGs, IV starts, Foley insertion, and Accuchecks
- Charge nurse or nurse supervisor present each shift; charge nurse only takes assignment when necessary
- Unit/department orientation includes 3 precepted shifts
- Scrub color is Navy Blue
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
- First time travelers are welcomed
Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience with some stepdown experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS, CRRT, and CCRN certifications preferred but not required
- Ability to titrate drips and troubleshoot advanced respiratory support equipment
- Competency in reading and interpreting EKG strips
- Experience managing intubated and complex critical care patients
