SUMMARY
The Strategic Supply Chain Manager will lead sourcing, procurement, and supplier management strategies to optimize costs, improve inventory control, and drive operational efficiency. This role will work cross-functionally with operations, finance, and production teams to implement a centralized purchasing strategy that maximizes value and reduces risk across the companys total annual materials spend.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Strategic Sourcing & Cost Management
- Develop and implement a company-wide procurement strategy focused on cost savings and supplier performance.
- Negotiate contracts, volume discounts, and long-term agreements to achieve 5%10% annual savings on material purchases.
- Identify alternative suppliers, optimize vendor mix, and leverage competitive bids to reduce overall spend.
2. Supplier Relationship Management
- Build strong partnerships with key suppliers to ensure cost competitiveness, quality, and delivery performance.
- Establish vendor scorecards to measure pricing, quality, and on-time performance.
- Reduce supplier base where appropriate to improve buying power.
3. Inventory & Process Optimization
- Collaborate with operations and finance to align purchasing with production schedules.
- Implement inventory control policies to reduce discrepancies between physical inventory and the balance sheet.
- Work with warehouse and production teams to maintain optimal stock levels and minimize obsolete materials.
4. Data-Driven Procurement
- Use analytics and market intelligence to identify trends, forecast demand, and manage price fluctuations.
- Implement a centralized purchasing system to track spending, supplier performance, and cost savings.
- Partner with finance to ensure accurate cost allocations and visibility into purchase commitments.
5. Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure all procurement activities adhere to company policies, budgets, and regulatory requirements.
- Mitigate supplier risks by evaluating financial stability, quality certifications, and contingency plans.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Education: Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field (MBA preferred).
- Experience: 5+ years in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably in manufacturing.
- Proven track record of cost reduction and supplier negotiation success.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems, purchasing software, and inventory control methodologies.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
