Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN with an active IL license and BLS certification for acute care night shifts.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute care Med/Surg unit with 29 beds and a typical census of 22-26 patients
- Patient population includes GI bleeds, sepsis, CHF, COVID, cellulitis, DVT, elderly falls, and post-procedure cases
- Nurse to patient ratio is 5-6:1 on nights
- Heparin drip titration required
- Uses Epic EMR system
- Night shifts, 3x12s (1900-0700), with every other weekend and rotating holiday coverage
- Travel RNs may be required to float to other Med/Surg units, but not to ICUs or chemo units
- Unit uses Phillips telemetry equipment for remote monitoring
- No on-call requirements
- Two shifts of unit-specific orientation are provided
- Charge RN and crisis RN coverage is available 24/7, with additional administrative supervisor and PCT support
- Any color scrubs allowed, but staff must provide their own and pediatric scrubs are not permitted
- Holiday shifts are assigned in rotation
- No local radius rule, but a local rate applies for those living within 50 miles
- COVID-19 vaccinations are not required for this position
- RNs draw labs only if necessary, with inpatient phlebotomy team available for blood draws
- First-time travelers are eligible for this assignment
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg RN experience required
- Experience with Epic EMR preferred
- Ability to titrate heparin drips
- Ability to attempt IV starts
