Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a Level 1 trauma, academic medical center requiring a NC or compact RN license and at least 2 years of Med/Surg Tele experience.
Responsibilities
- Position is located in a 29-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
- Patient population includes general medicine cases such as diabetes, GI, respiratory, renal, wound care, chest tubes, and trachs
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:5-6, with CNA support at 1:9-10
- Centralized telemetry monitoring is utilized
- Epic EMR experience required
- Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing systems are used
- Work schedule includes either 12-hour day (0630-1900) or night (1830-0630) shifts
- Every other weekend rotation is required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required to other Med/Surg units
- 75% holiday coverage expectation
- Phlebotomy is a shared responsibility with CNAs providing basic patient care support
- Unit culture emphasizes patient-centered care, reliability, and teamwork
- 24/7 access to respiratory therapy, hospitalist, intensivist, and rapid response teams
- Professional orientation includes NEO and 2-day departmental training
- Royal blue scrubs are required
- Free employee parking is provided
- First-time travelers may be considered if they have a strong Med/Surg Telemetry background
- RTO requests require manager approval
Requirements
- Active RN license from NC or compact state required
- Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (for Resource Team)
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Proficiency in patient care skills such as chest tubes, trach care, PIV starts, drain and tube management, and PCA pumps
- Experience with intravenous gtts management including Amiodarone (occasionally), Fentanyl, Ketamine, Dilaudid PCA, and Heparin
