Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry Stepdown position requiring a NE or compact RN license and strong cardiac care skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in the Cardiac Stepdown (CVU) unit of an acute care hospital with Trauma Level 1 designation
- Unit supports thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart patients
- Patient population includes intermediate care, post-CVICU, cath lab, CVAs, CHF, A fib RVR, and other cardiac and vascular diagnoses
- Unit has 18 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4, or 1:3 for post-surgical patients during the first 24 hours
- RNs required to titrate cardiac drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, and cardizem
- Hardwired and box telemetry monitoring; RNs read and interpret their own strips
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (1830-0700), including every other weekend
- Floating required to same or lower acuity levels
- EMR is Epic; Epic experience preferred
- Department tailored orientation of 1-2 shifts based on experience
- Responsibilities include complex telemetry monitoring, titration of cardiac drips, and direct care for a variety of cardiac patients
- Nurse aides or patient care techs support the unit with a 1:18 ratio
- Hospitalist and intensivist in-house 24/7; cardiology on call after hours
- Respiratory therapy support and equipment available; RNs may need to troubleshoot equipment
- Remote telemonitoring tech support provided, but RNs interpret their own telemetry
- Every other weekend required; manager sets the schedule with no self-scheduling or block scheduling
- Required to wear navy blue scrubs; artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
- RTO must be submitted up front (maximum of 7 days per contract); no additional RTO will be approved
- Candidates who have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year are not eligible
Requirements
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of submission
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience and at least 1 year with cardiac stepdown or similar patient population
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Must provide a copy of driver's license for address verification
- Compliance with a 50-mile radius rule; candidates must not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
- Successful completion of a pass/fail open book orientation exam with a score of 90% or higher
