Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN with at least one year of experience and Epic charting experience for a night shift assignment in New York.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Med/Surg Telemetry unit caring for patients with a variety of cancers, sickle cell crisis, sepsis, and organ failure
- Night shifts consist of three 12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:00
- Day/evening nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 5:1 (may stretch to 6 or 7), nights are 6-7:1 (may stretch to 8 or 9)
- Travelers may float within scope to similar units as needed
- Patient care techs provide support with vital signs, blood glucose, EKGs, and ADLs
- In-house phlebotomy team handles peripheral lab draws while nurses manage PICC and central lines
- Special equipment on unit includes CADD pumps, SCD pumps, wound vacs, and tube feeding pumps
- Care includes peripheral line management, non-invasive airway management, oxygen therapy, and isolation precautions
- Epic EMR is used; experience required for first-time travelers
- Care for a broad spectrum of medical and surgical telemetry patients
- Work with a multidisciplinary team, including PCTs and in-house phlebotomy
- Required to work every other weekend
- No on-call responsibilities for this assignment
- Scrub colors must be any combination of navy and white
- Holiday RTO is not permitted and time off requests are limited to no more than 7 days
- First-time travelers are welcome if Epic experience criteria are met
- Return staff must have at least a one-year gap since last employment
Requirements
- Active NY RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum one year of recent Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience
- Current BLS certification is required
- Strong skills in dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Experience with Rapid Response Teams and peripheral/central line care
- Epic experience required, especially for first-time US travelers
- Candidates must live at least 75 miles from the facility
