Description The
Operations Shift Team Leader is responsible for supervising the operations team during assigned shifts, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the coal-fired power generation facility. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to respond effectively to operational challenges and emergencies. The Team Leader will coordinate with maintenance, engineering, and environmental teams to support continuous improvement and plant reliability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safety & Compliance
- Enforce plant safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis for safety events.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including emissions control and reporting.
Operations Monitoring
- Monitor boiler, turbine, and auxiliary equipment performance using control systems and field inspections.
- Analyze system data and trends to maintain optimal plant output and efficiency.
- Perform routine and emergency operational adjustments to meet load demands and maintain system stability.
Incident Management
- Serve as initial incident commander during plant upsets or emergencies.
- Coordinate response actions, communicate with leadership, and document events.
- Ensure timely resolution of operational issues and restoration of normal conditions.
Maintenance Coordination
- Generate work requests and coordinate equipment isolation for maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to prioritize repairs and support outage planning.
- Verify completion of maintenance tasks and return-to-service readiness.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare detailed shift reports, including equipment status, operational events, and performance metrics.
- Maintain accurate logs, records, and compliance documentation.
- Communicate shift handover information clearly and thoroughly.
Performance Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve plant efficiency, reliability, and safety.
- Support implementation of operational best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and equipment care.
Training & Development
- Train new operators on plant systems, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Support cross-training and skill development across the operations team.
- Participate in performance evaluations and development planning.
Requirements Required: - High school diploma or equivalent; technical or engineering degree preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in coal-fired power plant operations.
- Strong knowledge of boiler, turbine, and auxiliary systems.
- Familiarity with supercritical steam cycle operations.
- Proficiency in control room operations and distributed control systems (DCS).
- Understanding of environmental and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred: - Prior supervisory or team lead experience.
- OSHA safety training and incident command experience.
- Experience with CMMS platforms and outage coordination.
