Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Float position requiring CA licensure, at least three years of nursing experience, and proven telemetry skills.
Responsibilities
- Position is in a hospital Med/Surg Telemetry Float unit
- May float between telemetry and med-surg units as needed
- Patient population includes adolescents through geriatrics
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5
- Night shifts, 3x12 hours from 19:00 to 07:30
- Every other weekend coverage is required
- No on-call requirements
- Telemetry monitoring is utilized on both unit and remotely
- Average unit census is 36 with 36 beds
- Responsibilities include care of a diverse med-surg and telemetry patient population across floating units
- Administration and management of cardiac and respiratory interventions is required
- Must wear royal blue scrubs per dress code
- Pre-employment modules and specialty-specific training are required before starting
- No requested time off allowed within the first two weeks of the contract
- All requested time off must be submitted and cannot be changed once submitted
- First time travelers are welcome to apply
- Return staff considered on a case by case basis
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of three years nursing experience, including at least two years of telemetry experience
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Must be able to interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias
- Skills required in post-cardiac angiogram, MI care, pre/post cardiac cath and surgery
- Experience with central line care, PICC line management, starting IVs, and blood product administration
- Competency in respiratory care, including chest tubes, tracheostomy management, external CPAP/BIPAP, and high flow therapies
- Must be capable of managing heparin protocols and cardiac drips (no titration required)
- Ability to read cardiac strips is mandatory
- Professional references must show high performance ratings
