Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a combined Pediatric and Adult Med Surg Tele unit, requiring an active AZ or compact RN license and three years of recent experience.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 10-bed acute care mixed unit serving both pediatric and adult Med Surg Tele (MST) patients
- Patient ratios are 1:3-4 for pediatrics and 1:5 for adults
- Patient population includes surgical cases (e.g., joint replacements, bowel resection), medical cases (e.g., COPD, pneumonia, infections), telemetry chest pain, and pediatric respiratory illnesses
- Care for both adults and children is required, with occasional floating to MST or birthing/couplets units as census demands
- 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend and holiday rotation required
- Uses Cerner EMR; experience is preferred
- Telemetry monitoring required for adult MST patients, with bedside monitors for pediatric patients and remote monitor techs
- Standby rotation required if census is low
- Navy scrubs required
- Responsible for primary care of pediatric and adult MST patients, including both surgical and medical cases and telemetry monitoring
- Expected to assist with stabilizing pediatric patients for transfer when necessary
- Will float to related units as needed, including couplets and birthing units if qualified
- Orientation provided by the hospital and unit based on experience
- Holiday coverage is distributed fairly on a rotation basis
- Nursing assistants typically take 10 patients; if no NA, RN takes 3 patients
- Required to complete and pass sterile technique assessments for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Two references required: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact state RN license required at time of submission
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Minimum of three years of recent acute care RN experience, including pediatric care
- Ability to care for both pediatric and adult patients
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with an 80% score within two attempts prior to contract confirmation
- Must be able to read telemetry strips
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have worked full time, part time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
