Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department position in Illinois requiring current IL licensure and specialized certifications.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute, Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department with 65 private beds and 2 trauma bays
- Patient population ranges from newborns to elderly, including critical and trauma patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:3-5, varying by department needs and patient acuity
- Common cases include cardiac arrests, strokes, heart attacks, and a broad spectrum of traumas
- 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p), with rotating weekend and holiday coverage as scheduled by management
- EMR system used is Epic
- Travelers typically do not serve as the primary nurse in the trauma bay but may care for stabilized trauma patients
- Floating is rare but may occur as a 'help all' without taking a full assignment on other units
- Responsibilities include caring for a diverse emergency patient population and responding to critical cases
- ED is staffed with a minimum of 3 attending physicians at all times and supported by ED techs and a 24/7 house supervisor
- Team includes charge nurses who do not routinely take assignments but assist with critical cases as needed
- Must wear tasteful scrubs with solid-colored shirts underneath; no specific color required
- No call requirement for travelers
- Block scheduling may be accommodated when possible
- No COVID vaccine required for assignment
- Local candidates are accepted with adjusted rates for those residing within 50 miles
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, with Emergency Department experience strongly preferred
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, TNCC or TNS
- Proficiency with critical care drips, including vasopressors, cardiac, and antihypertensive medications
- Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and respond to life-threatening arrhythmias
- Prior experience at a teaching hospital and SANE RN experience are preferred
- Experience using Epic EMR is preferred
