Job Description Summary Organization's Summary Statement:
The Strategic Space Sensing Lab at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position. The appointment will be in the Department of Aerospace Engineering for a full-time position for an initial period of 1 year. The position may be extended based on funding availability and performance level. The expected start date is Fall 2025. Applications will be reviewed immediately; the position will remain open until filled.
The position will be part of a research program aimed at advancing detection pip lines for space object detection applications. The postdoctoral researcher will work with the PI (Dr. Tam Nguyen) and graduate students in the research group to develop simulations, detection methodologies, and validation strategies. This work will involve close collaborations with government agencies, research labs, and industry partners.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop modeling and simulation tools for ground- and space-based sensors, o bit propagation, scene image generator
• Implement image processing and detection algorithms
• Develop system analysis and validation framework
• Provide research mentorship to graduate students
Required Qualifications
• Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Astronomy, or a
related field.
• Background in astrodynamics, sensing systems, and computational methods
• Strong scientific programming skills (Python, MATLAB)
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with simulation and algorithm development
• Experience with large-scale data analysis or high-performance computing
• Programming skill in C/C++
