Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a mixed Pediatrics/Adult Med-Surg Telemetry position, requiring an active AZ or compact RN license and at least 3 years of experience.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute care mixed MST/Pediatrics unit with 10 beds
- Patient population includes both adults (med-surg, telemetry) and pediatric patients with varying ratios
- Common adult cases include surgical (hip/knee replacement, bowel resection), medical (MRSA, C-diff, COPD, pneumonia, COVID), and telemetry patients with chest pain
- Pediatric cases include respiratory illnesses, seizures, dehydration, and post-surgical care
- No titration of drips required; stable adults may require BiPap
- Unit is equipped with bedside monitors for peds and tele monitoring for adults; RNs must read tele strips
- Uses Cerner for charting
- 12-hour day shifts, with every other weekend required (Saturday/Sunday)
- May float to MST or birthing unit for adult or mom-baby couplet care depending on census and experience
- Holiday rotation required for equitable coverage
- Standby rotation if census is low
- Provide primary nursing care for a mixed population of adult med-surg and pediatric patients, including telemetry monitoring and responding to acute changes
- Collaborate with a team that may include newer or less experienced staff; strong clinical expertise is valued
- Charge RN and nurse aides available for support, with ratios depending on patient assignment and NA availability
- Must attend both hospital and unit orientation, with additional orientation based on experience
- NAVY scrubs are required on the unit
- Must successfully complete a sterile technique skills check for foley catheter and central line dressing changes during the first day of orientation
- First time travelers are accepted
- Will not float to west campus; may float to birthing unit or MST as needed
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of application
- Minimum of 3 years RN experience with pediatric clinical experience required
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are all required
- Must pass the dysrhythmia exam within two attempts before contract can be signed
- Ability to care for both pediatric and adult med-surg/tele patients
- Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
- Two professional references: one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
- Candidates must not have worked at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility as full time, part time, or PRN staff within the past year
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
