The Role: Spring Hill GPS (Global Propulsion Systems) is a General Motors engine plant responsible for producing 4-8-cylinder engines.
The
S afety Supervisor is accountable for providing Workplace Safety technical and regulatory advice, mentoring, guiding, and coaching to site/functional operations. They are responsible for assisting Site Leadership with the following to maintain compliance with all GM Workplace Safety and regulatory requirements:
- Analyzing Workplace Safety data and communicating results and trends along with continuous improvement opportunities; Assessing site Workplace Safety performance and conformance to requirements
- Working in partnership with the local site leadership to support Workplace Safety cultural transformation
- Developing and educating site employees to drive Workplace Safety cultural transformation; and Developing partnerships with key site personnel including Manufacturing and Non-Manufacturing Leadership, Human Resources, Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics resources, and Health Services
What You'll Do - Leads a team of Safety professionals to support a site and/or region in the implementation of Safety processes.
- Develops valuable strategic direction that drives successful execution of Global Workplace
- Safety Supervisor is responsible for coordinating/directing health & safety activities for facility or functional areas to eliminate industrial accidents
- Advise management on continued development of safety and health culture
- Provide direction, trains, develops and evaluates employees
- Assist in the implementation and interpret the safety and health provisions of local and national labor agreements.
- Facilitate the investigation of accidents and/or injuries: conduct safety audit, surveys, and inspections to verify compliance levels
- Maintain awareness of state and federal safety regulations; corporate policies and procedures regarding safety and industrial health
- Develop and implement programs to reduce job related injuries
- Meet with local union representative and lead in resolution of safety matters
- Review and approve new equipment and methods for potential hazards
- Analyze safety statistics and develop recommendations
- Provide technical guidance to management on Health & Safety issues
- Participate in Health & Safety committees
- Maintain positive relationships with local union leadership and management
- Accompany compliance officers and prepare required data
- Demonstrate complete job knowledge and understanding of assigned work area
- Strong interpersonal skills in facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution
Your Skills & Abilities - Bachelor's Degree
- Industrial Safety related experience
- Strong interpersonal skills in facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and work to plan
- Well developed analytical, organizational, and project management skills
- Well developed written and verbal communications skills
- Well developed use of HR Systems and Computer Software Application skills

- Masters preferred - occupational safety or industrial environmental health
