Unit Overview
- Unit Name: Inpatient Pediatrics – Floor 4, Boise Hospital
- Bed Count: 41 beds
- Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:4
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Types of Patients:
- Respiratory (e.g. asthma, bronchiolitis)
- Diabetic management
- Post-surgical (trachs, g-tubes, shunts, hernia repairs)
- Seizures
- Suicidal ideation (SI) & mental health
- No cardiac patients
Certifications & Experience
- Required: BLS, PALS
- Preferred: CPHON (for oncology care)
- Experience: 2 years preferred; open to first-time travelers
Clinical Details
- Drips:
- No titration required
- No common titratable or set-rate drips
- Charge Nurse: Yes, on each shift (typically without a patient load)
- Support Staff:
- Day: 1 tech per 8 patients
- Night: 1 tech per 20 patients
- RT/Respiratory Equipment:
- Home vents used occasionally
- Travelers NOT required to have trach/vent experience
- Tele Monitoring:
- Not on unit
- If ordered, it is remote
- RN does NOT need tele experience
- Pediatrician Coverage:
- In-house during day
- On-call from home at night
Scheduling
- Shifts: 7a–7p or 7p–7a
- Scheduling Flexibility: Work with scheduler; block scheduling up to 5 shifts allowed if it meets unit needs
- Weekend Requirement: 5 weekend shifts per 6 weeks
- Holiday Requirement: At least 1 holiday during contract (likely)
- Call/Standby: None, unless NICU-trained
- Floating: None
- Orientation: 2 x 12-hour unit-specific shifts
- Scrubs: Any color, no specific dress code
Other Notes
- Radius Rule: Must live 50+ miles away to be eligible as a traveler
