Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift position with orthopedic and post-op experience required.
Responsibilities
- Position is in a combined Med/Surg and Ortho unit with 42 beds consisting of single and double rooms
- Cares for general medical, post-operative, medical trauma, and a variety of orthopedic surgery patients including total joints and spinal fusions
- Night shift schedule with 12 hour shifts and requirement to work every other weekend, nights defined as Friday/Saturday
- Typical night shift patient ratio is 1:6
- Floating to other Med/Surg units may be required
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
- Unit provides support from CNA, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, wound care, respiratory therapy, and 24/7 in-house hospitalist
- Remote telemetry monitoring is used; bedside RNs are not required to read or measure telemetry strips
- Core responsibilities include managing post-operative and orthopedic patients, responding to traumas, and operating specialized equipment
- New travelers are accepted if they have at least 2 years of RN experience
- Orientation includes hospital NEO plus one or two 12-hour precepted shifts on the unit
- Schedule is posted 4 weeks in advance for a 4 week period
- Up to 7 days of requested time off may be approved
- Holiday coverage requires 1-2 holidays per contract
- Dress code allows any color scrubs
- Free onsite and surrounding lot parking is available
Requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license required (may be submitted with a pending license and proof of application)
- Current BLS certification required
- At least 1 year of recent Med/Surg RN experience required
- Experience with orthopedic patients, post-op care, and equipment such as CPAP/BiPAP, wound vacs, JP/Hemovacs, and SCDs required
- Experience managing heparin, protonix, and octreotide drips per lab protocols
- Familiarity with Epic EMR preferred
- Must be able to provide professional references from a supervisor or above
