WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly skilled and professional Administrative Specialist III to support a wide range of administrative, personnel, and strategic functions. This position plays a key role in the internal operations of the Office and serves as a vital resource for staff and leadership.
Note: The selected applicant will be required to successfully complete a background investigation and a physical examination that includes a drug/alcohol screen prior to appointment.
What You'll Be Doing Key Responsibilities but not limited to:
- Oversee and coordinate various administrative functions supporting the mission and daily operations of the Sheriff's Office.
- Participate in limited strategic budget discussions and assist with financial planning processes.
- Provide support in personnel administration, including recruitment and placement, classification studies, labor relations, performance evaluations, promotions and terminations, and disciplinary matters.
- Advise on human resource policies and procedures such as retirement planning, FMLA, workers' compensation, light duty assignments, and other HR-related matters.
- Serve as the Human Resources Liaison (HRL), supporting staff on benefits, retirement inquiries, and employment-related questions.
- Represent the elected Sheriff in meetings related to human resource issues and consult on sensitive personnel matters.
- Liaise with internal County departments and external agencies to coordinate services, resolve issues, and ensure effective communication.
- Conduct research and analyze complex data for special projects and administrative initiatives.
- Contribute to the planning and coordination of office automation and system improvement efforts.
- Provide general administrative support as assigned by the Sheriff.
Minimum Qualifications Experience: Three (3) years of professional administrative experience related to human resources (e.g., personnel administration, human resource management, research, analysis and development or other related areas).
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
Substitutions:
Education for Experience: additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Experience for Education: additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences Preferred Criteria Screening Questions will be used pertaining to: - Experience with Law Enforcement / Military recruiting.

- Experience in Human Resources within large corporations or Government entities.

Leave Benefits Our generous leave package starts with non-MLS permanent and term employees earning 15 days of sick leave and 15 days of annual leave in their first year, as well as up to three additional personal days each calendar year. Positions in MLS earn 35 days of paid time off each year. In addition, we offer all employees 10 paid holidays.
