Shift: Days 5 x 8-Hour (10:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
Expected Hours: 8 hours a Days, 40 hours a week
Note: Locals are accepted at different pay rates.
Job Overview
This position provides and coordinates specialized nursing care for patients with acute and chronic wounds. The RN Wound Care Nurse delivers evidence-based, patient-centered care, utilizing strong clinical knowledge in wound assessment, treatment, and prevention strategies. The role requires maintaining current clinical competencies in wound management, including pressure injury prevention, negative pressure wound therapy, and advanced dressing selection. The RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team, educates patients and staff on wound care practices, and ensures compliance with hospital, departmental, and regulatory standards to promote optimal healing outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
:- Treating skin reactions
:- Preventing skin breakdown
:- Treating and managing vascular ulcers, pressure ulcers and diabetic ulcers
:- Initiating preventative measures
:- Providing comprehensive wound management, including reducing causative factors, controlling odor, assessing nutritional needs, and providing and applying topical therapies
:- Educating the patient, the patient’s family, and any other support persons on care techniques
:- Assessing and treating draining wounds and fistulae
:- Designing pouch systems for draining wounds and fistulae
:- Implementing preventative actions to reduce the incidences of pressure ulcers and vascular ulcers
:- Providing instruction on proper wound dressing
Required Qualification
:- Must possess a valid State of New York RN license
:- Minimum 2 years of Wound Care experience required
:- Candidates must hold one of the following certifications:
- Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) – issued by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB)
- Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON) – issued by the WOCNCB
- Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) – issued by the WOCNCB
- Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) – issued by the American Board of Wound Management (ABWM)
- Wound Care Certified (WCC) – issued by the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy (NAWCO)
