Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit with Level 1 trauma experience and active AZ or Compact RN license required.
Responsibilities
- Work in the Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit within a hospital Level 1 trauma setting
- 48-bed unit with 10 epilepsy specialty rooms, treating patients with conditions such as epilepsy, brain tumors, subdural hematomas, scoliosis surgeries, TBI, and other neurological diagnoses
- Unit functions as MedSurg/Telemetry with telemetry and some ventilator support using Bipap
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 on both days and nights
- Shifts are 12 hours (7am-7pm), with self-scheduling and 3 weekend shifts required every 4 weeks
- Floating may be required to MedSurg/Tele floors
- Cerner is the charting system used for documentation
- Two shifts of floor-specific orientation are provided
- Expected to work 2 out of the 4 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's)
- RNs are expected to detect subtle changes in neuro patients and maintain sterile field competency
- Team structure includes a charge RN with no patient assignment, resource RN, nurse aides, RT and pharmacy available 24/7
- Utilizes self-releasing Velcro seat belts, not classified as restraints
- Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Steel/Greys Anatomy scrubs are required
- Pass/fail SIMs Lab includes intensive skills assessment on day 1
- First-day failure of required clinical tests results in ineligibility to work within the region for 6 months
- Returning candidates who were not staff within the past year may apply
- Personal vehicle required for travel teams
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact RN license is required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years recent RN experience with Level 1 trauma exposure
- Current certifications required: ACLS and BLS
- Must pass Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, with 2 attempts allowed
- Completion of pass/fail SIMs Lab for sterile technique, Foley catheter insertion, and central line dressing changes on day 1 of orientation
- Strong critical thinking and assessment skills, including cranial nerve assessment
- BSN preferred, MedSurg/Tele certification preferred but not required
- Must adhere to 50-mile radius rule determined by driver's license address
- Not eligible if employed by CommonSpirit (including CHI/Dignity) within the past year
