Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring position requiring Level 1 trauma experience and night shift availability.
Responsibilities
- Position is in a Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Unit serves patients with neurological diagnoses including epilepsy, brain tumors, subdural hematomas, scoliosis surgeries, TBI, and other neuro conditions
- Telemetry skills are required in addition to Med/Surg experience
- 48-bed unit, including 10 rooms specializing in epilepsy monitoring
- Patient ratio is 1:4 on both days and nights
- Uses Cerner EMR; prior experience preferred but not required
- 12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling; 3 weekend shifts required every 4 weeks
- Expected to work 2 out of 4 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's)
- May be required to float to Med/Surg or Telemetry floors as needed
- Ventilators (Bipap) are used, managed by RT
- Charge nurse and resource RN available each shift; nurse aides present on all shifts
- Daily duties include frequent neuro assessments, monitoring trend EEGs, and use of self-releasing velcro seat belts for safety
- Orientation consists of 2 floor shifts plus facility-specific skills lab
- First day includes a pass/fail simulation lab; failure results in ineligibility for 6 months at regional facilities
- Hospitalist and intensivist coverage during days, IV team and respiratory therapy available 24/7
- Steel color scrubs are required per unit dress code
- Strong skills in recognizing subtle patient changes are essential
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Natural hair color and no facial piercings are allowed per facility policy
- Holiday coverage is based on rotation
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at the time of consideration
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience, including Level 1 trauma experience
- Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, another from a supervisor or peer within the last 3 years
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, with two allowed attempts
- Must pass a SIMs Lab skills checklist on Day 1, covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
- No direct employment with related health system in the past year
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Strong critical thinking and assessment skills needed
