Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level II Trauma Center with high acuity cases and evening/night shifts.
Responsibilities
- Work in a hospital Emergency Department (ED) with 60 beds, including inpatient holding, psych rooms, and hall spaces
- Level II Trauma Center with Level IV NICU, serving pediatric through geriatric populations
- Handles a full spectrum of emergencies including trauma, GSW, sepsis, COVID, STEMI, stroke, DKA, mental health, and respiratory issues
- Average daily census ranges from 140-150 patients
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, with flexing to 1:5 for low-acuity patients
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and telemetry at the nurse station
- Shifts are 12-hour evening and night (start times typically 1500 or 1900), with every other weekend required
- No floating required during contract
- No on-call required
- Holiday coverage required for 3 of 5 major holidays per contract
- Supported by ER techs, charge nurse, float/resource nurse, RT, educator, security, house supervisor, and pharmacy available 24/7
- Fast-paced, high-acuity, team-oriented environment with traveler-friendly culture
- Orientation includes NEO, Epic training (if needed), and 3-4 precepted shifts
- Scrub color is flexible as long as professional, piercings should be modest, and tattoos must not be offensive
- Free parking available in designated areas
- Approved time off: up to 5 days per contract
- Cannot guarantee block scheduling, but efforts are made to accommodate staff preferences
Requirements
- Active RN license required
- Minimum 1 year of strong Emergency Department experience
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and CPI/MOAB
- General ED nursing skills required, including cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV skills, procedural sedation, blood administration, and cardiac medications
- Epic EMR documentation experience preferred
- Must complete and pass a Traveler Telemetry Competency Exam before starting
- Not open to first-time travelers
