Deputy Assistant Secretary 3 of the Health Standards Section, you'll oversee critical healthcare operations impacting over 9,000 providers statewide. Minimum Qualifications Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been at the managerial level or above:
Eight years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating administrative programs, operational programs, or special projects or initiatives within a public or private sector organization; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus five years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating administrative programs, operational programs, or special projects or initiatives within a public or private sector organization; OR
A bachelor's degree plus five years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating administrative programs, operational programs, or special projects or initiatives within a public or private sector organization; OR
An advanced degree, or a Juris Doctorate, plus four years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating administrative programs, operational programs, or special projects or initiatives within a public or private sector organization.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties:
- Directs and oversees statewide operations of the Health Standards Section (HSS), including supervision of medical certification supervisors, managers, specialists, and administrative staff to ensure compliance with federal and state mandates.
- Provides leadership in healthcare licensure and regulatory oversight , ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of citizens receiving services in licensed and certified healthcare facilities.
- Manages and coordinates legislative, regulatory, and rulemaking activities for HSS, including analyzing proposed legislation, developing policies, and revising regulations to maintain up-to-date standards of practice.
- Oversees registries and investigations related to direct service workers, certified nursing assistants, and hospice attendants, including handling abuse/neglect/exploitation cases and recommending appropriate disciplinary actions.
- Leads emergency preparedness and response efforts for licensed and certified healthcare facilities statewide, serving as an LDH representative in coordination with state and federal agencies.
- Directs financial planning and budget management for all HSS operations, including state budget requests, federal grants, contracts, and interagency agreements to support mandated activities.
- Represents LDH and HSS in high-level consultations and collaborations with legislators, providers, public officials, and professional organizations, providing regulatory guidance, resolving conflicts, and ensuring program goals are met.
