Job Description This position is open to Department Employees only. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for a Fish and Game Coordinator located in Kodiak! What you will be doing: The Regional Supervisor position provides an incredible opportunity for those seeking challenging work related to management and research supporting some of the most valuable and diverse fisheries in Alaska. The position supervises a team responsible for research and management supporting groundfish, shellfish, salmon, and herring, fisheries in the Kodiak, Chignik, Alaska Peninsula, and Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands areas. This position requires strong supervisory and administrative skills and ability to manage complex budgets as well as large research vessel and aircraft programs.

The working conditions you can expect: This position can be based in the Kodiak Regional Office, located on Near Island in the City of Kodiak. Staff working in the region are located in Kodiak, Chignik, Sand Point, Cold Bay, Port Moller, and Dutch Harbor and the incumbent will have opportunities to visit each of these locations to work directly with ADFG staff and meet with fishery stakeholders. Most of this position's work occurs in the office, but there are opportunities each year to participate in field work.

Who we are looking for: We are looking for an individual with the following competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge and experience in fisheries resource management and stock assessment of various fish species over a wide geographic area.
- Oral and written communication skills, including the ability to make scientific presentations to the Alaska Board of Fisheries, other agencies, fishing industry representatives, and the public.
- Knowledge of and ability to read and interpret fishery statutes and regulations, along with experience in the Alaska Board of Fisheries regulatory process.
- Experience and understanding of administrating and prioritizing the expenditure of large, complex, and diverse budgets. Supervisory and management skills, including work and staffing prioritizing and allocation, training and development of employees, ability to deal with difficult personnel situations, supervising staff in multiple locations, and preparing performance evaluations.
- The ability to mentor staff and contribute to their career development.

First Aid/CPR. For those not already certified training will be provided by the department at no cost to the employee.
Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in biology, a branch of biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, or natural resource management;
AND
Seven years of professional experience as a fisheries, wildlife, or habitat biologist that includes at least one year as a program manager or technical expert or two years at an advanced professional level. The program manager or technical expert experience is met by service as a Fisheries Biologist 4, Wildlife Biologist 4, or Habitat Biologist 4 and the advanced professional biologist experience is met by service as a Fisheries Biologist 3, Wildlife Biologist 3, or Habitat Biologist 3 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Substitutions:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college that includes or is supplemented by the following credit hours will substitute for the degree in a specific field:
• at least 24 semester hours (36 quarter hours) in biology, a branch of biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, or natural resource management (excluding courses that focus on agricultural husbandry techniques, human population dynamics, or the design and manipulation of landscapes), of which 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) are upper division courses; and
• at least 12 semester hours (16 quarter hours) in any combination of two or more of the following: chemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics, geology, hydrology, or GIS.
A master's degree in biology, a branch of biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, or natural resource management will substitute for one year of the required professional experience. There is no substitute for the requirement for specific experience as a program manager or technical expert or at an advanced professional level.
A doctorate in biology, a branch of biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, or natural resource management will substitute for three years of the required professional experience. There is no substitute for the requirement for specific experience as a program manager or technical expert or at an advanced professional level.
Special Note: "Upper division courses" means courses that are specialized, in-depth and advanced. Such courses emphasize problem-solving, analytical thinking skills, and theoretical applications, with depth and rigor in a discipline's theories and methods; specialization in a particular field or profession; refinement of general education; and/or development of specific intellectual and professional skills. Upper division courses are commonly identified in college catalogs as 300 level and higher.
