Unit Overview
- Facility Requirement: Permanent address must be ≥25 miles from facility.
- Beds: 24 Private Rooms
- Patient Type: General Medical (NOT oncology-focused)
- Common: COPD, detox, psych, falls, failure to thrive, neutropenic fever, blood transfusions
Staffing & Ratios
- RN Ratios:
- Days: 1:4–5 (Goal: 1:4)
- Nights: 1:5–6 (Goal: 1:5)
- CNA Ratios:
- Days: 1:6–10
- Nights: 1:8–12
- Charge Nurse: On both shifts; usually non-assigned, except rare cases on nights (e.g., chemo)
- Rapid Response Nurse: 24/7 available
- Telemetry Monitoring: Remote techs monitor; RNs do not read strips
Requirements
- Experience: 1+ year med-surg experience; travel not required
- Certifications:
- BLS (RQI completed during orientation; required even with current BLS)
- Skills:
- Must be able to titrate drips
- Drips: Heparin, Fentanyl (No chemo required)
- Epic Experience: Not required
Respiratory Equipment
- CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow O2
- Managed primarily by in-house RTs (24/7)
Scheduling
- Shift Times: 0645–1915 (Day) / 1845–0715 (Night)
- Self-Scheduling: Yes (in Kronos); manager adjusts minimally
- Block Scheduling: Yes (Preferred: Sun–Tues nights)
- Weekends: Every other (4 weekend shifts in 4 weeks: Fri & Sat nights)
- Block schedulers may be exempt
- Holidays: Rare need, but possible
- Call: Possible for low census; reduced on-call pay
- Floating: To other inpatient units (e.g., Tele, Ortho/Neuro, Surgical)
- Will only care for medical patients, not specialty-specific
- Floats with perm staff
Dress Code
- Scrubs: Navy Blue (not provided)
- Appearance: Must be professional
Orientation
- 3 shifts with a preceptor
- Additional time possible if needed
- RQI (BLS) completed during this time
Additional Notes
- High need for night shift travelers during holiday season
- Must submit all PPW by Wednesday at NOON MST the week before the start date
