ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT - STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES DEFINITION Under general direction of the Superintendent, provides leadership, coordination and supervision of Student Welfare and Success, District-wide Nurse Services, Family Programs, Before and After School Age Children (B.A.S.E.), and serves as a resource regarding laws pertaining to minors in dealing with attendance and discipline problems.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Superintendent
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: - Provides direction to District staff in the resolution of problems involving student behavior, attendance, and adjustment.
- Reviews school requests for expulsions; reviews documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Provides leadership in the periodic review of District policies, regulations and procedures to assure compliance with State and Federal law.
- Develops and supervises procedures for Home/Hospital program.
- Provides general supervision for the District alternative education programs including, but not limited to, the following: K-8 independent study, school attendance and review board (SARB), and home/hospital; provides liaison between the District and public and private agencies; and assures District compliance with program requirements.
- Administers program budgets; maintain records of program equipment, facilities, and materials.
- Supervises, evaluates and supports the Coordinator of BASES in the delivery and implementation of childcare programs throughout the district.
- Provides for appropriate in-service training of administrators and staff in relation to pupil services, District-wide nurse services, child care and special programs.
- Acts upon and makes recommendations for all Intra-District transfers.
- Reviews materials for presentation to the Board and does follow-up correspondence.
- Maintains contact with outside agencies such as the Police Department, Public Health Department, Probation Department and others regarding child welfare cases.
- Serves as a District liaison for the School Resource Officer Program.
- Serves as special consultant to site administrators, District personnel, parents, and pupils on problems exceptionally difficult to solve.
- Performs other professional duties as assigned.
- Provides direction to Director-SSS related to District Nurse and nursing staff in the delivery, implementation and support of health related services to students and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: Credentials: Valid California Administrative credential; Pupil Personnel credential authorizing service in Special Education, or a School Psychologist.
Education: Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Successful teaching and/or administrative experience totaling a minimum of five years.
LICENSES: A valid California Motor Vehicle Operators' License.
WORK YEAR: 221 days
