Registered Nurse – CVICU – Night Shift

Shift: Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Schedule: 3x12-hour shifts/week
Position Overview:
University of Maryland Medical Center is seeking a skilled CVICU RN for a 16-week night shift travel assignment at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital.
The role involves managing critically ill cardiac patients requiring advanced mechanical circulatory support and complex monitoring in a fast-paced environment. Ideal candidates will be experienced with a variety of cardiac devices and therapies in an interdisciplinary team setting.
Certifications & Requirements:
- Active MD RN License or Compact License – Required
- BLS, ACLS – Required
- CCRN, CPI – Preferred
- Minimum 2 years CVICU experience with 1:1-3 patient ratios
- Experience with Epic Charting System – Required
- Trauma Level I Experience – Preferred
- Travel experience – Not required
Skills & Competencies:
- IV therapy, arterial line management, central and PICC line care
- Blood product administration and starting IVs
- Ventilator management, care of ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP management
- Interpretation of ABGs and suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Management of ECMO, Impella, IABP, LVAD/RVAD, PA Swan Ganz catheters
- Post-cardiac surgery and pre/post cardiac cath patient care
- Administration of continuous IV sedation, paralytics, vasoactive drips, titration of cardiac medications
- Management of dysrhythmias, cardiac monitoring, and emergency response
- Infection prevention, wound care with drains, phlebotomy
- Use of cooling devices for targeted temperature management and CRRT

- Patient Diagnoses: Cardiogenic shock, heart failure, arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, pulmonary hypertension, mechanical circulatory support, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
- Special Equipment: Impella, VAD, IABP, CRRT, ventilators, cooling devices, CCO monitors
Staffing & Scheduling:
- Self-scheduling with occasional float within hospital
- Patient Ratios: 1:1-3
- Weekend Coverage: Every third weekend
- Call: Not specified
Additional Notes:
- Flu vaccine required, COVID-19 vaccine not required
- Holiday shifts every other holiday with one approved off
- Two professional references required (manager and charge RN)
- Candidates must reside over 50 miles from facility
- Must be comfortable floating without restrictions within experience scope
