Kind of Work Professional, supervisory technical and administrative work managing and overseeing the operation of the CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) database within the DNA unit. Work includes ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards and operational requirements for CODIS. Work also includes managing CODIS security and user access, troubleshooting system issues and providing training; and related work as required.
****This position is pending City Council approval.**** Minimum Qualifications 1. A Bachelor's Degree* from an accredited college or university with a major in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related scientific field.
2. Twelve (12) semester hours of college course work that must have included all of the following areas: biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology and either: statistics or population genetics.
OFFICIAL COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT MUST BE PRESENTED TO THE NEW ORLEANS CIVIL SERVICE DEPARTMENT WITHIN TWO (2) WEEKS OF APPLICATION. 3. Five (5) years of full-time professional forensic experience as a qualified DNA Analyst.
NOTE: A Master's Degree in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related field may be substituted for (1) year of professional experience; a PH.D in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related field may be substituted for two (2) years of professional experience.
NOTE: Civil Service reserves the right to determine which degrees are considered closely related.

DOMICILE REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT (SEWERAGE AND WATER BOARD) :

WORKING TEST PERIOD: Effective August 1, 2023, the working test (probationary) period for all positions in the classified service is one year. SUBSTANCE ABUSE TESTING: The City of New Orleans has a comprehensive program of substance abuse testing. Candidates for employment for certain positions where the health, welfare and/or safety of the public, co-workers and the individual employee is at risk will have to undergo pre-employment substance abuse screening. A MEDICAL EXAMINATION is required for all original entrance probationary appointments to ACTIVE classifications, and may be required for re-employment, promotions and/or transfers.

GOOD MORAL CHARACTER is required of all applicants. Any applicant may be disqualified if his/her character or past employment record is found to be unsatisfactory as determined by the Department of City Civil Service.
