The Judicial Council is the policymaking body for the trial and appellate courts of California. The Center for Judicial Education and Resources (CJER) is the Judicial Council office responsible for developing education and training for justices and judges of the California Supreme Court, courts of appeal, and trial courts, the leadership and staff of those courts, and Judicial Council staff.
This position is responsible for scheduling and executing project management and logistical tasks necessary for the successful delivery of education programs and products for judges, court managers, and court personnel. The role involves direct support of faculty and collaboration with attorneys and education developers involved in faculty training, recruitment, and course content development.
The incumbent coordinates efforts across various internal teams, including A/V Support Services, Distance Education and Media Production, meeting planning and contracting, program registration, printing, and mailing. They also provide comprehensive program management for live events, working closely with faculty and on-site personnel to ensure seamless delivery.
This position requires independent management of multiple concurrent programs or products and oversight of various delivery formats, including but not limited to: in-person conferences, statewide institutes, regional and local courses, webinars, online videos, podcasts, and videoconferences.
As part of the implementation of Judicial Branch Education Plans approved by the Judicial Council, this role includes full administrative coordination and project management responsibilities across multiple education initiatives. To meet budgetary and scheduling requirements, assignments may rotate among staff; therefore, the position requires the flexibility and capability to perform all related coordination duties as needed.
The Judicial Council The Judicial Council of California is the policy setting body for the state court system and has constitutionally conferred statewide rule-making authority. This authority includes developing, advocating for, and allocating the judicial branch budget. A majority of Council members are California state justices and judges; however, the Council also includes lawyers, legislators, and court administrators.

The Judicial Council offers hybrid work arrangements for many positions. The successful candidate will be expected to work in person at the Judicial Council's San Francisco or Sacramento office at least two days per week, based on their office leader's direction, and reside in the areas surrounding these locations.
Responsibilities - Monitor program budget. Establish program budget based on prefixed guidelines set by department supervisor and manager; monitor expenditures and notify management if/when costs will exceed budget allotment
- Prepare chart of program faculty for use on registration website and in confirmations
- Communicate with faculty on deliverables due per established program timeline, assist with registration and lodging/travel needs
- Receive pre-course surveys and ensure on-site distribution and post-program receipt from participants
- Prepare and submit information (program overview, financial information, faculty information, agenda, etc.) to registration to enable website development
- Monitor and manage course enrollment and communicate to stakeholders
- Collaborate with content partner to define nature and scope of program
- Monitor room block and provide meal count guarantees
- Determine and oversee printing and/or electronic delivery methods
- Oversee all program publicity and communication milestones
- Coordinate submission of information for posting to online calendar and event detail page.
- Enter all purchases associated with program (hotel, caterings, contract faculty, etc.) into the Fi$Cal system to generate purchase order. Apply appropriate project codes
- Some travel required
Qualifications Three (3) years of administrative support experience including some experience in area(s) of
assignment (such as accounting, writing/editing, database/spreadsheets, direct support to upper
management, etc.).
OR
Associate's degree, preferably in area(s) of assignment, and one (1) year of administrative support
experience including some experience in area(s) of assignment (such as accounting, writing/editing,
database/spreadsheets, direct support to upper management, etc.). Additional directly related
experience and/or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
OR
One year as an Administrative Specialist, Facilities Specialist, or Fiscal Services Specialist with the
Judicial Council of California or one year of experience performing the duties of a class comparable
in the level of responsibility to that of an Administrative Specialist, Facilities Specialist, or Fiscal
Services Specialist in a California Superior Court or California state-level government entity.
