Position Description
ASSISTANT OPERATIONS MANAGER - Englewood, CO AE2S has an exciting new role for an Engineer in our Englewood, CO office. Due to our growing size, we are excited to be hiring an Assistant Operations Manager. This is a great opportunity for an Engineer to move into a leadership role and get a chance to better understand the business side of the engineering world.
The Assistant Operations Manager will work closely with the Operations Manager and other engineers to ensure income-earning activities are successfully managed and executed for the office. This individual will also continue to work on engineering projects and client management as well as business development and sales strategies.
Responsibilities - Assist the OM as needed in the management of direct reports including working directly with senior office staff on the assignment of project teams and inter-office workload coordination
- Assist OM in maintaining technical and financial supervision for the office location. This includes monitoring of financial performance to keep cost of services and overhead at a competitive level and staff utilization data to identify key indicators requiring corrective action.
- Assist with general employee management including evaluating individual performance, promoting safety, and personnel issues.
- Develop individual team members through training and coaching as well as interviewing and assisting with appropriate hiring and termination decisions. Provide recommended training opportunities in line with the employee's technical area or personal development goals.
- Remain up to date in areas of practice areas of practice and project management by spending an anticipated range of 65 to 75 percent, as determined by the OM, on completing billable work.
- Assist with client management including maintaining and enhancing existing and pursued relationships for clients within the office's geographical service area.
- Assist with maintaining sufficient and effective sales effort to keep personnel productively engaged and achieving modest growth.
- Assist with business development including the identification, evaluation, pursuit, and management of project opportunities.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements - Bachelor's degree in engineering or other related field
- 3+ years of experience in civil or environmental engineering
- Ability to travel as required for business development and project/client responsibilities
- All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications - Registration as a Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain within 12 months
- 6+ years of experience in civil or environmental engineering
- Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally with clients, public, and other employees including continuously conferring with staff and supervisor
- Ability to lead both internal initiatives and external projects including functioning productively as part of a project team.
- Ability to multi-task and effectively manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
- Maintains stellar reputation of trust, fairness, reliability, good judgment and aptitude among peers, management and staff
- Proven ability to work well with diverse groups
- Ability to make decisions and delegate appropriately
Physical Qualifications - Ability to walk up to 3-miles on uneven terrain.
- Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Occasionally climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weight.
- May require lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- May be required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to, flame resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear.
- May require occasional evenings and weekends with overtime expectations varying with workload.
- May be required to travel to off-site locations including occasional overnight stays out of town.

- Anticipated Starting Salary: $82,800-$110,00 per year DOE (Compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skillset, etc.) Position will remain posted until September 19, 2025.
