Michael Baker International's civil engineering professionals manage and staff active projects in over 40 countries on five continents. DESCRIPTION The Civil and Environmental Practice seeks an enthusiastic and motivated Mechanical or Civil Engineer to join our growing and high performing Fuel System and Environmental Compliance team based in Virginia Beach, VA. Responsibilities will include planning, executing, and documenting environmental compliance projects related to the storage and distribution of petroleum, oils, and lubricant (POL) facilities and infrastructure for a well-established client. This includes inventories, inspections and management plans for Petroleum Storage Tanks (PSTs) and related spill response and prevention activities and plans such as development of Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) plans.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary, collaborative engineering team, with staff located in the Virginia Beach office and in other Michael Baker offices located across the United States (US). In addition, you will have several opportunities to travel across the US (including Alaska, Hawaii and territories) as well as internationally (including Europe, Asia and Africa) to various Department of Defense installations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Under direct supervision, assists and supports a Project Team of engineers in planning, executing, and documenting environmental engineering projects. Essential duties:
- Evaluates and develops technical scopes of work and cost estimates for unique project requirements.
- Evaluates the applicability of state and federal environmental regulations.
- Prepares documents for regulatory agencies to obtain required permits.
- Communicates with Project Team on technical and administrative requirements.
- Attends internal meetings as necessary and documents key decisions and action items.
- Prepares for site visits by evaluating project scopes of work and coordinating site work activities with onsite personnel and vendors.
- As directed, completes site visits by traveling to sites to meet with clients and initiate, oversee, document, and troubleshoot the execution of environmental compliance work.
- Following site visits evaluates vendor reports of site work and prepare technical reports documenting the project scopes of work.
- Completes project technical requirements within established budgets and schedules.
- As directed, performs quality assurance activities.
- Completes continuing education and training to maintain professional expertise and credentials.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience: 0 - 5 years of engineering experience.
- Licenses/Registrations: Engineer Intern/Engineer-in-Training certification preferred.
- Experience in Department of Defense civil and environmental engineering and/or environmental compliance projects is preferred.
- Experience with tank and piping inspections, spill response planning and development of SPCC Plans is a plus.
- Certification in tank and/or piping inspection (such as STI SP001/API 653/API 570)is also a plus.
- Excellent technical writing and communications skills. Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat. Proficient skills in AutoCAD will also be considered.
- Physical Demands: Site visits may require the ability to traverse uneven terrain wearing PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) and carrying light equipment necessary for data collection and reporting.
- Travel is required for this position and the individual must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., with a valid U.S. passport and eligible for security clearance. Travel requirements for this position are between 40-60% of the work schedule and include domestic and international destinations.

COMPENSATION The approximate compensation range for this position $ $67,059.20 - $105,622.40 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
