Duties & Responsibilities Position Primary Purpose Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, Office of the Dean, is seeking applicants for a full-time Faculty Development Program Administrator. The Faculty Development Program Administrator will be responsible for leading and supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing faculty professional growth and development. This position will play a key role in designing, implementing, and evaluating faculty development programs, resources, and activities that promote teaching excellence, research skills, career advancement, and well-being for faculty members.
The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, an understanding of higher education environments, and a passion for fostering a supportive academic community. This positions requires a proactive, collaborative approach to working with faculty and administration to ensure that faculty have the tools, knowledge, and resources necessary to excel in their academic and professional roles.
Responsibilities This position will provide:
- Program design and administration, organization of workshops, seminars and retreats, and coordination of onboarding processes for new faculty including orientation activities, mentorship programs and institutional resources
- Faculty support and engagement by serving as the primary point of contact for faculty regarding professional development opportunities and facilitating mentoring programs to support early- and mid-career faculty members
- Program evaluation and reporting by conducting regular assessments of faculty development needs and aligning programming to institutional goals and priorities
- Collaboration and networking through the development of partnerships with internal and external organizations, including professional associations, to enhance faculty development offerings
- Administrative responsibilities involving oversight of logistics for faculty development events, budget management, and maintenance of records and databases related to faculty development activities
Qualifications Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree
- 3-5 years of experience in faculty development, academic administration, or a related field; preferably in a higher education or healthcare/medical education setting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications: - Master's Degree in higher education, administration, organizational development or related field
- Knowledge of dental education or experience working within an academic healthcare setting
- Familiarity with best practices in teaching and learning for faculty engaged with adult learners
