Description Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement was established to provide for the health and safety of citizens and protect them from animals and the threat of animals. The mission of Animal Care and Enforcement is not only to enhance the safety of citizens, but also to ensure the proper care and treatment of animals. This is accomplished through animal-related services, which reflect our professionalism and a concern for responsible pet ownership.
An hourly salary range of $33.79 to $39.29 is anticipated for this position. Examples of Duties The duties listed below are not all that may be assigned but are those that are considered essential for an employee to perform.
- Establishes and enforces rules and regulations for shelter operations.
- Develops and recommends policies or changes in legal statutes that affect operations.
- Researches and is cognizant of changes in laws or procedures which affect operations.
- Manages shelter operations and assists in developing and preparing an annual budget.
- Determine staffing needs, conduct interviews, and recommend personnel for hire by the Chief of Police.
- Assigns work and sets work standards.
- Controls the sale, release, or euthanasia of animals.
- Prepares and analyzes reports, resolving unusual problems.
- Trains subordinate personnel.
- Meets with the general public and private agencies to resolve mutual issues of concern.
- Duties may involve an element of personal danger from animal bites, diseased animals, adverse weather conditions and the possibility of irregular hours.
- May be operating a county vehicle in the performance of duties.
- Reports directly to the Captain of Animal Care and Enforcement Operations.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree and two years of management experience. Veterinary and/or Animal Shelter experience
- Associate's Degree in a related field and four years of management experience
- High School Diploma or GED and six years of management experience that includes budget formulation, personnel administration, and customer service
- Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver's License
