Job Title: Behavioral Health RN – Variable Shift

Position Overview
Join a state psychiatric facility providing specialized care for patients, including individuals who are registered sexual offenders. Nurses must be comfortable working with this patient population and adhere to strict safety protocols.
Position Details
- Contract Length: 26 or 52 weeks
- Hours: 40 hours/week – 5x8s (Variable)
- Shift: Evening or Night shift only – final assignment will be determined on-site after orientation. Must remain flexible for either shift.
- Credentialing: 2+ weeks (10 business days); start dates must reflect this timeline.
- Orientation: 30 days; attendance is critical – missed days may delay assignment until the next orientation (held once per month).
- Training Schedule: All training occurs on day shift (5x8s). First week includes Medication Certification. Shadowing will cover patient population, facility layout, and medication protocols prior to direct patient care.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care in a behavioral health setting.
- Safely care for patients with complex psychiatric and behavioral needs, including sexual offenders.
- Follow strict attendance guidelines, particularly during orientation and holidays.
- Float to units as needed to meet patient care demands.
Requirements
- Licensure: Active CA RN License (renewal or expedited application may be necessary).
- Certifications: BLS, CPI.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years as an RN in behavioral health (inpatient) specialty required. Travel nursing experience preferred but not required.
- COVID-19: Full vaccination and booster or Exemption (if eligible) required.
Additional Details
- Patient Ratios: 1:8, 1:30 (varies by unit).
- RTO: If requested, RTO must be submitted 1 month in advance (between the 15th–20th of each month).
- Maximum of 8 days. No RTO during training.
- On-Call: Not required.
- Scrubs: Any color; Navy Blue or Black preferred. PPE provided.
- Parking: On-site.
