The Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer performs diagnostic imaging scans on high-risk pregnancies from 1st through 3rd trimester. The role requires strong clinical expertise in routine and specialized procedures to produce quality images for physician interpretation, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and prevention of complications.
Scans performed include:
- Nuchal Translucency (NT)
- First Trimester & Detailed (Level II) Anatomy
- Biophysical Profile (BPP)
- Umbilical Artery & Middle Cerebral Artery Dopplers
- Transvaginal Studies
- Multiples (Twins, Triplets)Ax
Requirement Details
Education Graduation from accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program (ARDMS certificate may waive school requirement)
Experience Minimum 2 years OB Ultrasound (3 years preferred); Travel experience required
Certifications BLS (AHA, in hand at submission); ARDMS OB/GYN required; ARDMS FE preferred
Skills Required OB/GYN scanning, 1st/2nd/3rd trimester, AFI, Fetal Survey, NT, Placenta Previa
Equipment GE ultrasound systems
Patient Ratio 1:8 (Day shift)
Charting System Epic (experience required)
Travel Radius Rule 50 miles – locals accepted at lower bill rate
Compliance Background check disclosure required (BG hits/DUIs); Return staff must be gone 1 yr
Vaccination Policy COVID & Flu vaccination guidelines: Unknown
Modules Non-billable, avg. 1–5 hrs; completed during orientation (factored into NBO hours)
Holiday Coverage Must cover holidays; RTO only 1 holiday approved
