Job Profile Summary The Associate Vice President of Public Safety is responsible for the leadership, development, and implementation of comprehensive safety, security, and emergency preparedness programs across Broward College. This role involves close collaboration with Senior Leadership, Academic Leadership, and Campus Operations to ensure the safety and security of all college campuses, partnership centers, and facilities. The Associate Vice President will lead and coordinate college-wide efforts to maintain a safe and secure learning environment and represent the College at various civic, community, and professional organizations, promoting the College's public safety initiatives to ensure emergency readiness.
Minimum Education: - Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred.
- Relevant industry-specific certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), or similar are preferred.
Minimum Experience: - 10 years of progressive experience in public safety, law enforcement, or emergency management, including at least 5 years of experience at the management level.
- Experience in higher education, K-12 emergency management, or a combination of both is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in leading safety, security, and emergency preparedness initiatives in a large, complex institution.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Essential Functions: - Provide strategic direction and leadership for all safety, security, and emergency preparedness initiatives across the College, aligning with the institution's mission and strategic goals.
- Develop, implement, and advocate for policies, procedures, and programs that enhance campus safety and security.
- Oversee a team of safety and security professionals, fostering an inclusive environment that promotes excellence and accountability.
- Lead the development and execution of emergency response and crisis management plans, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Coordinate response efforts for various emergency incidents, including weather-related events and general safety threats.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for emergencies, coordinating response efforts with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with senior leadership and external agencies to integrate safety and security considerations into operational planning.
- Represent the College in local, state, and national safety and emergency preparedness organizations, advocating for resources and support.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to enhance the College's overall safety posture.
- Manage the departmental budget and resources effectively, pursuing funding opportunities and partnerships to support safety and emergency preparedness initiatives.
- Oversee the development and delivery of safety, security, and emergency preparedness training programs for staff, faculty, and students.
- Ensure continuous improvement in emergency preparedness through regular drills, training exercises, and reviews.
- Monitor legislative developments related to public safety and emergency preparedness and advocate for the College's interests.

- Knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and emergency preparedness protocols.
- Experience with public safety accreditation programs and business continuity planning.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex projects and initiatives.
- Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
