Summary You will serve as an EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST in the Fleet Engineering Branch of NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV NEWPORT RI.
This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project.
The NT-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-13 and GS-14 and the NT-4 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-11 and GS-12.
NT-5 $119,355 - $183,353 The salary range is capped at the GS-13, Step 10 $155,164
NT-4 $83,742 - $130,488 Duties Help
- You will perform tasking in support of the Fleet Engineering Branch.
- You will coordinate and conduct MK48 Advanced Capability (ADCAP) Heavyweight (HWT) Torpedo Fleet Failure Analysis onsite at the Mk 48 ADCAP Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA)located at NUWC DIV Keyport, WA.
- You will work directly with the Fleet Failure Analysis team at NUWC Division Newport to discuss Torpedo failures.
- You will be responsible for drafting Failure Analysis plans for failed torpedoes that are returned to the IMA.
- You will identify failed components and determine if the failures are hardware failures or assembly errors.
- You will be required to be enrolled in the Explosive Qualification Certification Program.
- You will conduct Data Extraction of HWT Torpedo data and perform data analysis on the extracted data to support various Failure Analysis investigations.
- You will assist the IMA as needed to investigate and help resolve in-process failures that occur.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications NT-5 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the N
T-4 (GS-11/12 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
analyzing torpedo failure issues/investigations/reports to determine root cause and provide recommendations for solutions. NT-4 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the
NT-3 (GS-09/10 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
providing torpedo failure investigations and providing reporting to management to determine root cause and provide recommendations for solutions. FOR NT-4: Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:
- A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field of study directly related to the position to be filled; OR
- Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field of study directly related to the position to be filled; OR
- An LL.M., if related to the position being filled; OR
- A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
There are no authorized education substitutions to qualify for this position at the NT-5 level.
