Description Jackson State University's Dean of Students Office is accepting applications for its Associate Vice President and Dean of Students. The Associate Vice President & Dean of Students reports to and works closely with The Vice President of Student Affairs.
Examples of Duties - Proven leadership skills and breadth and depth of experience in increasingly responsible positions in the student affairs and student life area so as to be able to develop and implement a vision for the University's student services area that is consistent with the University's strategic plan and the University's mission.
- Must be familiar with campuses having demographics, mission, scope and other characteristics similar to Jackson State.
- Understanding of and commitment to developing a diverse campus community.
- Strong administrative leadership development, problem solving, conflict resolution, consensus building and diagnostic decision-making skills.
- A strong commitment to providing leadership that systematically and synergistically links in the academic affairs and student life branches at Jackson State.
- Responsible for the implementation of programs, services, resources, and advocates for the needs and interests of all students at Jackson State University which serves over 9,000 students.
- Responsible for fostering an atmosphere conducive to the pursuit of knowledge, basic rights and I responsibilities by providing disciplinary standards that are in the best interest in the University.
- Responsible for the oversight of the following areas: Student Engagement, Student Center Operations, Veterans Center.
- Strong commitment to being student-centered and understands collaborations and engagement.
Typical Qualifications - PhD in Higher Education or EdD, Psychology or equivalent field of education preferred.
- Master's degree required.
- Minimum of five years of middle management experience in the following areas; Student Affairs, student activities or equivalent.
- Experience managing budgets and multiple departments.
