Job Summary/Basic Function: The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Outreach and P-12 Partnerships provides strategic leadership for Wright State University's outreach initiatives, strengthening the P-12 to postsecondary pipeline across Raider Country. Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the AVP builds and sustains partnerships with local school districts, community organizations, and other stakeholders to advance college access and student success in the Dayton region.
Using a collaborative, asset-based approach, the AVP leads the development, implementation, and assessment of pre-college initiatives-particularly for underserved, first-generation, and economically disadvantaged students. The AVP ensures these programs comply with state and federal regulations and align with institutional goals for educational attainment and enrollment
Minimum Qualifications - Terminal degree in educational administration, public policy, higher education, student affairs or a related field.
- At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in K-12 education, college access, college outreach, student success, enrollment management, student affairs, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success leading strategic education initiatives.
- Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
- Experience using data to drive decision-making and improve program outcomes.
- Record of building strong, collaborative relationships across the organization and effective communication that successfully supports and advances issues that impact students.
Preferred Qualifications - Background in grant writing and securing external funding.
- Leadership experience in higher education or large-scale community initiatives.
- Familiarity with state education policy.
- Leadership positions/experience in other external higher educational institution
- Employed experiences in student affairs.
Essential Functions and percent of time: 25% Strategic Leadership and Partnership Development - Build strong relationships among K-12 leaders, higher education partners, and business and community organizations. Foster and sustain these long-term partnerships to create systemic, sustainable change in educational outcomes.
- Design initiatives that promote alignment between P-12 systems and higher education pathways. Coordinate campus engagement strategies that elevate the university's visibility and role as a regional education partner.
- Represent the university in regional and statewide forums related to educational attainment, college access, and outreach. Advocate for policies and practices that enhance access and student success.
- Assume accountability for all pre-college initiatives, including the Take Flight Academy, developing strategies to strengthen these programs and ultimately improve student matriculations to Wright State University.
25% Program Development and Oversight - Create and oversee pre-college and pipeline programs that prepare students for higher education. Ensure programs are relevant and effective in meeting access goals.
- Manage resources to support access efforts while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Monitor program outcomes and implement data-informed continuous improvement strategies to strengthen outreach and pipeline efforts.
- Develop and maintain systems to track student progress, program participation, student outcomes, and long-term success.
20% Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement - Coordinate multi-agency and cross-sector working groups focused on P-12 to postsecondary transitions.
- Collaborate closely with Enrollment Management, Admissions, Financial Aid, and Academic Affairs to ensure program alignment and effectiveness.
- Build consensus among internal and external partners to advance shared educational goals.
- Cultivate external funding and partnership opportunities to expand access-related resources and initiatives.
15% Data and Outcomes Assessment - Analyze program data and institutional enrollment trends to assess impact and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare regular reports and presentations to university leadership on progress toward goals.
- Use insights to refine and enhance outreach initiatives.
10% Team Leadership and Budget Oversight - Supervise and develop staff responsible for coordination of outreach initiatives. Establish clear expectations and evaluate staff performance.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities to direct report.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, service excellence, and continuous learning.
- Manage budget for outreach initiatives, ensuring responsible allocation of resources.
5% Other duties as assigned - Undertake special projects or responsibilities at the direction of the Vice President for Enrollment Management.
Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd): Non-Essential Functions and percent of time: Working Conditions Work Environment: The Assistant Vice President (AVP) primarily works in an office setting at Wright State University but will frequently engage in off-site meetings and events within the Dayton region and beyond. This includes visits to local schools, community organizations, regional education forums, and statewide meetings. The role requires considerable travel within the service area to build and maintain partnerships.
Schedule and Hours: The position typically follows a standard university business schedule (Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) but may require occasional evening or weekend hours to attend community events, meetings, or outreach activities.
Physical Demands: The role involves routine office work including computer use, phone communication, and attending meetings. Travel to partner organizations and school districts may require extended periods of sitting, standing, or walking.
Collaboration and Interaction: The AVP will work closely with university leadership, faculty, staff, K-12 education leaders, community stakeholders, and external partners. The position requires strong interpersonal skills to navigate diverse settings and facilitate productive collaborations.
Responsibility Level: This is a senior leadership position with significant responsibility for program development, staff supervision, budget management, and strategic initiatives that impact educational outcomes across the region.
Compliance and Regulatory Environment: The AVP must ensure all outreach initiatives comply with relevant state and federal education regulations, institutional policies, and funding requirements.
Technology Use: Regular use of standard office technology including computers, email, data management systems, and presentation tools is required.
