Job Summary The Jail Administrator is accountable and responsible to the Sheriff to plan, organize, implement, administer and evaluate the jail. Ensure that the main jail is staffed with well trained and qualified personnel. The Jail Administrator works with staff to analyze staffing needs and to ensure the facility is effectively maintained and managed in a fashion that provides for the protection of the public safety, the institutional safety, and the delivery of constitutional services and rights. The Administrator supervises the Assistant Jail Administrator, Jail Programmers, Jail Sergeants, Correctional Officers and Jail Office Records Specialist. The Administrator provides work direction to transport officers, jail volunteers, and contract vendors.
Examples of Duties - Supervises all activities of the jail including supervision of jail employees, contracted vendors and oversight of inmate supervision and concerns.
- Effectively communicates and cooperates with internal offices, public and private agencies or organizations, and government organizations.
- Establish and monitors the budget for the jail, including but not limited to food, medical, and training cost.
- Research and develop training criteria for new hire orientation, field training program for jail staff, vendors, volunteers and professional visitors.
- Analyze and evaluate effectiveness of jail operating policies and procedures.
- Reviews and responds to detainee requests and grievances Assistant Jail Administrator and Jail Sergeants. Oversees medical and programming requests.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration, Business Management, or related field, and five years related corrections supervisory experience, or equivalent. A valid Driver's License is required.
Supplemental Information HOURS: 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M., Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week and on call 24 hours per day.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Exempt, Non-Union - Grade 17
