Position Summary Information
Job Goal
JOB PURPOSE/GOAL: To provide direct operational leadership and support to academic deans and program areas, ensuring the effective delivery and continuous improvement of credit-bearing academic programs. This role supports the Vice President of Teaching and Learning in fostering a culture of academic excellence, student success, and fiscal responsibility within the college's educational offerings.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Directly supervise and strategically mentor academic deans on curriculum development, faculty performance, and program analytics.
2. Initiate and lead inter-departmental collaborations to streamline academic processes and achieve strategic institutional goals.
3. Lead the development and implementation of district-wide academic schedules and faculty assignments, optimizing resource utilization and student access.
4. Supervise, observe, and evaluate classroom performance of assigned faculty. Recommend the selection, retention, and dismissal of assigned faculty and staff members.
5. Assist with district-wide schedule planning and assignment of faculty.
6. Supervise the Arts and Science Chair; establishing processes to cover faculty observations,
discipline assessment plans and measurement of student outcomes.
7. Orchestrate the integration of efforts of the Quality Faculty Plan Committee, Department of Innovation and Design, and the academic deans to deliver a standardized and robust faculty onboarding program, resulting in improved faculty retention.
8. Ensure a comprehensive and collaborative faculty mentoring and evaluation process which incorporates the learning management system rubrics and students rating system(s).
9. Champion and oversee the continuous development and review of educational programs to ensure alignment with transfer requirements and market demands, evidenced by program enrollment growth and transfer success rates.
10. Promote and support faculty development and leadership.
11. Maintain an "open-door" for students, faculty, and staff. Work to resolve grievances according to established procedures.
12. Supervise the following district-wide student support service areas: Learning Centers, Testing Centers, Accessibility Services and Library identifying measures to validate effective student service.
13. Ensure program and department initiatives align with the College Strategic Plan and are met according to established benchmarks and goals.
14. Maintain program, course and curriculum files to ensure uniformity and compliance in all publications.
15. Assist in the development of articulation agreements with area high schools and other post-secondary educational institutions.
16. Ensure programs are delivered in accordance with the College, state and accreditation standards.
17. Monitor the inventory, care, and use of departmental supplies and equipment. Advocate for program needs.
18. Provide oversight for operational budgets for areas of supervision. Work with the faculty and deans to identify ways to improve fiscal competency and ensure efficient and strategic allocation and utilization of college resources.
19. Participate on the Quality Faculty Plan Committee to ensure comprehensive faculty development offerings.
20. Coordinate the district wide Phi Theta Kappa honor society chapters.
21. Represent the College at local and statewide events to strengthen community, business and industry partnerships.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications : Master's Degree in an academic discipline or Higher Education Administration, Community College Leadership, or Educational Leadership is required. Doctorate is preferred. Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration, with at least three years of direct supervisory experience over academic faculty or program leads. Teaching experience at the postsecondary level with strong preference for community or technical college experience.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Essential Functions
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Demonstrated ability to work in a complex organization with a variety of academic program offerings. Demonstrated ability to lead and support academic teams in achieving student success outcomes. Experience with assessment, measurement of student learning outcomes, and providing leadership to assessment processes within academic areas. Understanding of regional accreditation and professional/industry accreditation associated with various academic programs. Highly effective team building and conflict management skills, with the ability to foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
Experience in building partnerships with PK-12 schools and other postsecondary institutions. Evidence of data-informed decision-making and the ability to effectively prioritize academic needs. Proven fiscal understanding and skills related to academic program management.
