Position Summary:
The Cardiovascular and Intermediate Care Unit (CVC/IMC) at UM Capital Region Medical Center is a fast-paced, high-acuity environment specializing in cardiac telemetry and step-down care. This is a combo unit, and travelers must be comfortable working both in the telemetry and intermediate care (IMC) sides.
Key Responsibilities:
- Care for patients with acute cardiac conditions and post-intervention recovery
- Monitor cardiac telemetry and interpret/manage dysrhythmias
- Administer cardiac medications, including amiodarone, cardizem, and heparin (non-titrated drips)
- Utilize IV, central/PICC line access, and manage wound care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (RT, PT, Pharmacy, Rapid Response)
- Float as needed within unit and to other appropriate units
Common Diagnoses:
- CAD / Chest Pain
- STEMI / NSTEMI
- CHF
- Hypertension
- Atrial Fibrillation & other arrhythmias
- Post-Pacemaker / Stent Placement
- Post-MI and Cardiac Surgery
Unit Details:
- Combo Unit: CVC + IMC (shared cost center, not considered floating)
- Staffing Support: RT, PT, Social Services, Pharmacy, Rapid Response Team, Unit Secretary
- Equipment/Drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin (non-titrated), PCA pumps
- Scrub Color: Not specified (confirm with recruiter if needed)
Requirements:
- License: Active Maryland RN or Compact RN license required at submission
- Experience: Minimum 1 year telemetry experience (PCU/IMC strongly preferred)
- First-time travelers accepted with strong telemetry background
- Certifications (Required):
- BLS (AHA only)
- ACLS (AHA only)
- NIHSS
- CPI certification (Calm Every Storm version – required for compliance)
Preferred Skills:
- Ventilator and trach care
- High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), CPAP/BIPAP
- Pre/Post cardiac cath and surgery experience
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and emergency response
- Renal failure and pre/post-hemodialysis management
