**Job Title: Respiratory Therapist (Night Shift)**
**Job Description:**
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Respiratory Therapist to join our team for a 13-week assignment on the night shift, working 3x12-hour shifts. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality patient care in a dynamic healthcare environment, delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Evaluate patients’ respiratory conditions and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
- Clearly explain the purpose, procedure, and necessary education regarding treatments, tests, and equipment to patients and families.
- Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using a variety of ventilatory equipment, including both invasive and non-invasive options, as well as oxygen and aerosol delivery devices and nebulizers.
- Perform chest physiotherapy utilizing specialized equipment to promote secretion clearance.
- Execute suctioning procedures through various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal) as necessary.
- Monitor patients through oximetry and capnography according to established policies.
- Review and interpret patients’ chest x-rays to determine the need for further evaluation.
- Perform 12-lead EKGs and recognize basic arrhythmias.
- Carry out pulmonary function studies as directed by policy, including NIF and VC assessments.
- Assist with respiratory care-related procedures, such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy placements, and chest tube placements.
- Ensure adequate drainage of the chest through the use of PleurX catheters or similar devices when applicable.
- Provide tracheostomy care, including the insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes in both emergent and non-emergent situations.
- Conduct arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency, as well as record and report test results accurately.
- For healthcare facilities with moderate complexity labs, adhere to all laboratory testing policies, including specimen handling and equipment use.
- Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
- Skillfully perform the insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes using free-hand techniques and/or video laryngoscope systems.
- Set up, self-test, and operate various types of ventilatory equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and monitoring throughout use.
- Document all relevant treatment information and patient responses in respiratory care records and patient charts, including pre and post-assessments as per policy.
- Communicate effectively with attending physicians and pulmonary specialists regarding the efficacy of therapies administered.
- Ensure comprehensive information transfer during shift-to-shift hand-off communications.
- Maintain accurate respiratory therapy billing records, including data entry and error correction.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned to support the respiratory care team.
**Qualifications:**
- Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program.
- Strong clinical skills and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
- Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
