**Job Title: Respiratory Therapist**
**Job Description:**
The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing high-quality patient care, including intensive respiratory care and patient transport in alignment with medical prescriptions. This role operates with minimal supervision, utilizing professional licensure to conduct evaluations and recommend appropriate treatment plans for patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate patients and develop treatment plans.
- Explain treatment purposes, procedures, tests, and equipment to patients, ensuring they receive necessary education prior to discharge.
- Administer physician-prescribed treatments, utilizing both invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer equipment for medication delivery, humidification, and ventilation.
- Perform chest physiotherapy to enhance secretion clearance.
- Conduct suctioning procedures via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods.
- Monitor oximetry and capnography as per established policies.
- Review patients' chest X-rays and conduct pulmonary function studies (e.g., NIF, VC) to determine the need for further evaluation.
- Assist in respiratory care procedures, including bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, and tracheostomy management.
- Execute arterial punctures and assess ventilation efficiency, documenting and reporting results accurately.
- Ensure proper laboratory testing procedures are followed, including specimen handling, equipment usage, and quality control measures.
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
- Insert and remove endotracheal tubes utilizing advanced techniques.
- Set up and conduct self-tests on ventilatory equipment while maintaining and monitoring various mechanical ventilation devices.
- Document all relevant treatment information and patient responses diligently on respiratory care records and patient charts.
- Communicate effectively with medical teams regarding therapy efficiency and maintain accurate respiratory therapy charges, including data entry and error corrections.
- Comply with additional responsibilities as assigned.
